Jet plane, night 1 day 2

29 May

Day 1 recap.

Last night could have been worse, I guess. I stayed up later than usual–about 1am–but by then I was so tired from being up at 3am and on the going mostly since then that I was able to doze off for a couple of hours at 1. Then I slept fitfully after that, waking up just before my alarm time to feed the dogs. I hit snooze and laid in bed a bit longer…until Butthead woke up and went over to Hub’s side of the bed and began poking at the comforter. I had to try to explain to her that he wasn’t there (did she think he snuck in overnight sometime and she didn’t notice??), but she didn’t seem convinced. It took me a few minutes to get her to follow me downstairs so I could feed her and Le Moo breakfast. After their breakfast and a trip outside, I went back upstairs to bed and dozed for another hour or so.

Today I pretty much distracted myself by chopping and sauteeing a ton of mushrooms to add to my soup when I nuke it for lunch. Then I ate lunch and read a book. I found aย Gidget marathon on television, which I pretty much left on all day and only turned off about ten minutes ago and only because it ENDED. At some point after lunch I tried to make my (in)famous peanut butter cookies for the brother who installed my floodlight cam, but I used low fat peanut butter (at his request) instead of regular peanut butter and the cookies came out flat. I have no idea what the issue was, but my brother said they still tasted good, they were just flat instead of puffy. When I took the bags of cookies over to my father’s house for my brother, I stayed for a while to talk about some stuff with Dad. Then we took pictures of some junk he wanted to try to sell on Craigslist (I hate CL) and I came home and listed them. Then I sent some curse-filled email responses to some spammers who responded almost immediately to one of the listings. So that was fun.

Then I read another book and half-watched/half-listened to more episodes ofย Gidget until it was time for dinner. Fed the dogs, outed the dogs, cleaned up after the dogs’ outing, then made myself some dinner. Half leftovers, half food I cooked myself. While I was eating, my brother sent me a text with a picture of a teeny tiny baby deer that was curled up next to his house. He spotted it while he was mowing and was concerned it was injured.

By the time Dad and Brother went inside to find a phone number for animal control and then returned outside, the little booger had disappeared. I suspect it was hiding there in the “tall” grass waiting until the riding mower stopped and the stupid people disappeared. We have a pretty big herd of deer living in our back property, so I assume this little baby got separated and was waiting for mama to return for it.

At this point, I’m tucked in upstairs after taking the dogs out a couple of more times during the evening. The hall lights are on, the bedroom door is locked, the dogs have finally settled in. I’m pretty sure both dogs are confused as to where Hub is, but no matter how much I explain they just give me the same look. Right now I’m tired and in some pain from all the extra activity, but I’m managing.

I’ve heard from Hub a couple of times today. He didn’t sleep well last night–he never does away from home–and his schedule today with his father seemed…odd. They “ran errands” and did a little bit of touristy site-seeing of some beaches. His father was SO hyped to have Hub out there to visit, but they don’t seem to be doing much. And Hub is counting the days to getting back home more than I am. Tomorrow evening is the wedding, so they won’t be doing much else other than that.

I’ve got another book here with me and I’ve got the nightly news on TV. I might rent or catch a movie on TV after the news until I’m too tired to stay awake anymore. Last night I caught the tail end/hour ofย YaYa Sisiterhood because I couldn’t find anything else. Tonight…well who knows? Tomorrow I go to see my massage therapist in the morning, but I’m getting a RELAXING massage instead of trigger point. Something to look forward to.

Day 2 completed, night 1 completed. I’m almost halfway through. I can do this.

Tomorrow’s low-down.

Gidget. Wow. I don’t think I’ve seen Gidget since I was a kid. I wonder if I’d still like her. I tried a few years back with some other shows I loved as a kid and not so muches.
Sadie doesn’t like it when we come a kid short or they don’t come home from school at regular time. She’ll sit by the door as long as we’ll let her. She can count, lol. Then when Bubba, friends of the girls, or my nephews stay here for awhile, she acts like that a day or two after. It’s noticeable mostly when the boy leaves. We all get sad and she makes a big, long sigh. So you know, some of the weirdness is because of our moods.
It must be weird for dogs. And considering where we take them bye byes, they must think we spend hours a day at the parks and on long walks! Imagine!
I love the deer photo ๐Ÿ™‚ My whole household awwwed at that.

I used to love Gidget (and Sally Field!), but honestly I had more fun singing the theme song every 30 minutes than I did with the actual shows. I was dipping in and out of the episodes as I was doing other things. I kind of wished they had played some of the original movies…I have some on TAPE and I just love them.

I never got a gauge on either of my dogs after Mom died. I don’t feel like either of them have ever really looked for her even though she was an integral part of our lives. Otherwise, there aren’t too many people coming in and out of our house other than Hub and me…and we’re pretty much always here. Butthead is sleeping near me (and so is Le Moo actually) where she would usually be on the other side of the bed and Hub’s dresser, where her bed is. I think she’s kinda skeeved out that Hub is missing. She’s been staring at one of the bathrooms and refusing to pass by it…Hub is the only one who uses that bathroom and I kind of wonder if she thinks he disappeared in there. LOL

OMG that’s too funny about bye byes. You’re probably right, they think we’re running amok without them!

And yeah, the deer was crazy-pants cute. I wanted to go over to see it in person but by the time I was freed up, it had left the area. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

That’s super funny about Hubs disappearing into the bathroom, but only cause you and I know better! I like that they’re with you ๐Ÿ™‚
We don’t get deer. The roads are too scary for them. There’s a heavy deer population here, so we see them a lot, but not at home. My neighbor Jim has lived here for decades++ and he practically lives in his kitchen banquette, gazing into our back 40 — and he says now and again he saw deer, but not in a long time. I reckon that’s good for my garden.

I showed the picture to The Mister and said, “And you worry over bunny rabbits in the tall grass.” ๐Ÿ˜‰

We have our share of car-to-deer confrontations, unfortunately, as we’re surrounded by lots of roads here. But the herd seems to remain strong in numbers, so I guess they’ve figured out how to survive in our area pretty well. This is the first time we’ve seen such a TINY baby, though. We normally see juveniles, but not an itty-bitty!

We worry over little bunnies, too. Unfortunately, we’ve had a few run-ins with some babies in our yard. My parents’ dog got one and killed it, which was very upsetting to us all. Our dogs chase them every spring when they’re…abundant, but have yet to actually catch one. And then Hub had a horrible incident with one when he was weed-whacking behind our air conditioner compressor. We think it survived, at least for a while, but it was just horrendous. Apparently they scream when injured or frightened, and the sound nearly drove Hub to tears. So yeah, worry over those bunnies. It’s hard to miss a deer in tall green grass (or wedged up against a HOUSE! LOL), but those bunnies can hide like nobody’s business. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Yes. They do cry out! The Mister encountered a lil warren a few springs ago, had to temporarily relocate them and mow. The house next door is abandoned and no one has mowed there at all this year. I hope that’s where they’re living. Sadie also enjoys them :/

Yeah, we always check the higher grass areas now, although we’ve since replaced the grass around the a/c compressor units with stone so we never have that issue again.

Our men are just big giant softies, aren’t they? ๐Ÿ™‚

They ARE! But we still feel better when they’re home ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, we do. I’m glad it’s not an ongoing issue for you anymore.

Me too, thanks. I often ask him to affirm he will not take any travel jobs. How pathetic am I? ๐Ÿ˜›

Not at all. Hub and I have the same conversation any time he is considering a new job. 0% travel or it’s off the table!
